Wadsworth Prize winner announced

BAC is delighed to announce that the 2020 Wadsworth Prize was awarded to Jonathan Conlin, for his book Mr Five Per Cent. The Many Lives of Calouste Gulbenkian. The World’s Richest Man (Profile Books, 2019). This was the 42nd occasion on which the Prize has been awarded.

Transport for London announce virtual exhibition

Transport for London have released a virtual exhibition titled “World War II Showcase”. The virtual exhibition explores the 22,850 members of London Passenger Transport Board (TfL’s predecessor company) staff who served in the armed forces during the Second World War. The exhibition will be available until July 2021.

Application open for the TownsWeb Archiving digitisation grant 2020

TownsWeb Archiving have opened their Digitisation grant for 2020. Three primary grants will be awarded to the value of £3,000 for the digitisation of two-dimensional cultural heritage media. Past winners include National Brewery Heritage Trust and Alpine Club Library.  Applications close 20 November 2020.

The National Archives Manorial document survey open

The National Archive are looking for uses of the Manorial Documents Register to respond to their survey. The survey will run until 19 October 2020 and is open to all interested in manorial records. The results are from this survey will help plan the future development of the Register.

The Business Archives Council are delighted to announced a new series of resources aimed at supporting buisness archives develop partnerships with academics. The resources include a new guidance document and film material available online on YouTube.

Winner of 2020 BAC cataloguing grant announced

The Business Archives Council are delighted to announce this year’s Cataloguing Grant for Business Archives has been awarded to West Sussex Record Office for the collection of the Sir Freddie Laker Archive. The judging panel for this years’ Cataloguing Grant for Business Archives were impressed with the variety of records of firms represented from across the UK.

The European Association of Banking and Financial History have made a series of Working Papers from 2014 to 2019 available for download on their website. The Working Paper Series are an opportunity to distribute research-in-progress relating to the files of banking, financial, business and economic history.

The European Association of Banking History, the Institute for Banking and Financial History and the Leibniz Institute for Financial Research SAFE have announced a call for papers for a conference that will explore the relationship between banking and the state. The deadline for submission is 31 August 2020.
