2005 Conference

From Family to FSTE

A Very Successful Day - a full conference write up appears in the January edition of the Newsletter.

The Business Archives Council conference took, as its theme, the transition of business from the traditional family run company to the multinational of today. At a time when the lure of the stock market continues to attract large numbers of entrepeneurs to move into the corporate world away from the smaller privately run company the 2005 Conference looked at various industries and how their records record this move.

Speakers addressed the various forms this movement has taken in the past, utilising business records from the banking, retail and industrial sectors of the economy. The Conference combined the academic approach with the practical insight provided by the archivists in whose charge the records of these businesses are preserved.

The Conference was held in the Sloane Room in the Peter Jones department store, Sloane Square, London on Tuesday 8th November 2005.
